- Length Width: This gives you the total square footage of your area.
- Depth: We recommend a depth of 3 inches for most applications.
- Divide by 27: This is the conversion factor to turn into

We generally recommend a depth of 3 inches for most applications.
Important Tip: Avoid applying mulch deeper than 4 inches, especially near tree trunks, as this can trap too much moisture and cause rot or invite pests. Keep mulch a few inches away from the base of trees and shrubs—this is known as the mulch doughnut method, not the “mulch volcano.”
