Lawn Rehab: Keeping the “Spring Green” Alive

In May, every lawn in the South Hills looks like a golf course. But come late June, the heat kicks in. Here is how to keep your lawn from going dormant before the 4th of July.

  • Topsoil Secret: If you have bare spots, June is the time to top-dress with Screened Topsoil. It protects the crowns of the grass from heat stress and fills in gaps where weeds take hold.
  • Watering Deeply: Avoid a light daily sprinkle. Aim for one inch of water per week, delivered in one or two deep soakings. This forces roots to grow deep into the cool earth.

Venetia Supply Tip: Raise your mower blade! Keeping your grass at 3 to 3.5 inches in June provides shade for the soil, reducing evaporation.
